Keys to Acceptance
What does it mean to truly find acceptance and appreciation?
I used to battle with the concept of acceptance. I thought that if I “accepted” it then that meant that I was “giving up” and that things would remain the way that I did not want them. With this mindset, I spent a lot of my time trying to force certain things to change instead of waiting for the Divine to act on my behalf. What was there to appreciate about a life where I felt like things were always happening to me?
I spent the first few years of my healing journey striving for change. I thought that once I fixed all of the things that I didn't like about my life & myself, then I would finally be happy. The gag is, I continued to find things that needed “fixing."
One day, I said: “Oh naw breh… this can't be it.”
What I've noticed is that one of the biggest blockers to people embodying acceptance & appreciation, is that their minds haven't opened to the notion that two things that be true at once. They haven't adopted an “and also” frame of mind.
Perhaps the truth is that you could stand to lose a little weight… and also that you love the body you're in. Perhaps you love everything about your life and also, you're open to change.
So one of the keys to acceptance is trying your best to stop pushing away what is present. Just because we appreciate and accept things, doesn't mean we have to attach to them. You can love and also, let go. You can appreciate, and also change.
I pray this helps someone today!
